Synthetic Kin is a creature between the organic and the artificial. Inspired by a marine form and its bond with a coral reef, it belongs to no known species, its shape drifting between reef, root and mycelium. It moves with gestures that are not its own.
Those gestures come from the artist's body: a motion-captured performance rooted in Amazonian percussion and spiraling movement, transferred onto an unfamiliar anatomy. The movements stay recognizable, yet strange, one body echoing through another.
For the artist, there has never been a point where one body ends and another begins. In a time when biological and synthetic systems are increasingly intertwined, the work asks what kinship could mean, and which delicate connections, human and non-human, we choose to sustain.
